The 1950s: Enter the Slitter Rewinder

In the 1950s, Cogepa took another important step forward by installing our very first slitter rewinder. At the time, we were acting as agents for Scandinavian mills and quickly recognized a challenge: smaller printers needed newsprint in flexible quantities, but the large mills in Scandinavia weren’t set up to handle such small tonnages efficiently.

By holding stock locally, we were able to bridge that gap — cutting rolls down to size and delivering exactly what printers required. This was the beginning of our slitting and rewinding services, and it allowed us to support both the mills and the printers with greater flexibility.

As demand grew, so did our capabilities. Over the decades we continuously invested in modern, more advanced winders and slitters, each upgrade bringing faster speeds, greater precision, and improved handling.
